How Big Will Lando's Star Wars Episode IX Appearance Be?

Thanks to the official casting announcement, we know for sure that Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Episode IX. What we dont know, alongside pretty much everything about the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, is just how big Landos role in the film will be. However, based on a new report, it sounds like Landos appearance will be a small one.

Making Star Wars is reporting that Billy Dee Williams Lando Calrissian does not have a large role in Star Wars: Episode IX, and wont be a major part of the story. But just because his part is brief, doesnt mean it wont be important. Lando Calrissian may fulfill a role in the film similar to that of Maz Kanata, helping the heroes on their quest by pointing them in the direction of the story's MacGuffin.

When we see him again Billy Dee Williams, may also be rocking a fancy blue cape and a cane and wearing a yellow shirt similar to the one that Donald Glover wore as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. This is just what Making Star Wars has heard though, so its best to take all of this Lando news with a grain of salt for now.

That said, this sounds about right for what we can expect from Lando Calrissian in Episode IX. Hes not Luke or Leia, nor is he part of the new class of Kylo, Rey, Finn or Poe. So it would be surprising if he had a ton of screen time with so many other characters stories and the arc of the entire trilogy and Saga to wrap up. As such, we shouldn't expect Lando to return in this third chapter of the sequel trilogy and be a main character.

This is especially true because neither Star Wars: The Force Awakens nor Star Wars: The Last Jedi established Landos current place in the galaxy or his role in this story. The last time we saw Billy Dee Williams as Lando was in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and that film took place decades before the current story.

But if this report is true, while Landos appearance will be small, it will still matter. The comparison to Lupita Nyongos Maz Kanata character makes sense, and hopefully that means Maz in The Force Awakens and not her cameo in The Last Jedi. While I dont think people are expecting Lando to be a big part of the movie, the fandom is eager to finally have him pop up.

If Lando comes in to help the new generation of galaxy heroes, it would allow his return to be brief but impactful and more satisfying than just a cameo. This is not his story, but he is still a part of this universe and it makes sense for him to once again find himself in a position to help tilt the balance of the galaxy in one direction or the other.

I also like the idea that he would take some style cues from his younger self in Solo: A Star Wars Story. That would be a nice nod to the spinoff, and provide a tiny bit of cohesion between the two incarnations of Lando and the various films of the Star Wars universe.

Its a pity we wont see him with Han again, and based on this report it doesnt sound like he would cross paths with Carrie Fishers Leia. But maybe Lando and Chewie will share a moment together. It's just cool that Lando is back, no matter what role he plays. Who knows, maybe hell even get back his beloved Millennium Falcon at the end of the movie when its all said and done.

We're entering the final months of 2018, and there are still a few superhero movies left to entertain audiences. Aquaman and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are closing things out in December, but we're only a few weeks away from finally seeing Venom. Not only is this the eponymous character's second live action appearance, following 11 years after Spider-Man 3, the movie is also delving into Eddie Brock's origin story without the Web-Slinger present, so many are interested to see how this adaptation turns out. That being said, if current box office predictions are correct, Venom could become the biggest October opening of all time (not adjusted for inflation).

Early box office tracking initially put Venom at making between $30-$50 million opening weekend domestically, while last month that range increased to $55-$85 million. Now THR has passed along that Venom looks to be settling down for a potential $65 million debut, although Sony is being more conservative with its estimates, instead suggesting a $55-$65 million launch. If Venom manages to hit the $56 million mark or beyond in its first couple days, it will surpass the previous domestic October record holder Gravity, which drew in $55.8 million opening weekend, while other October heavy hitters from recent years include The Martian and Paranormal Activity 3. Venom's biggest competition that opening weekend is Warner Bros' A Star is Born, which earned critical acclaim out of the Toronto International Film Festival, but is predicted to come in second place with between $28-$30 million domestically (Warner Bros says it will be closer to $25 million).

Superhero movies are usually released in the summer movie season or the November/December period, but as we've seen with the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadpool and Black Panther, these kind of blockbusters can be successful in more unusual times of the year. If these early predictions prove correct, Venom will count itself among that successful group, although how it ends up being received critically is a different matter. Nevertheless, Venom is one of the more well-known characters from the Marvel mythology, which ideally will help put butts in seats, and if Venom meets or exceeds these estimates, that increases the chances of a sequel moving forward.

Inspired by the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book storylines, Venom will show reporter Eddie Brock becoming bonded with his symbiote and putting his new abilities to the test against the Life Foundation, which is led by Carlton Drake and has other symbiotes lurking behind its walls. Along with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, the movie's cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate and Woody Harrelson.

Group That Tried To Mess With The Last Jedi And Black Panther Is Back For Avengers: Infinity War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to achieve scope and scale unlike anything that we have ever seen from this franchise before. Avengers: Infinity War is now less than a week away, and many fans have already prepared themselves for the big occasion. Having said that, not everyone is thrilled about the upcoming release of Infinity War, as it seems that the same group who tried to sabotage the Rotten Tomatoes scores of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther is back in an attempt to do the same to the latest Marvel film.

For more information on what's happening, we must once again look to Facebook. The group "Down With Disney's Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys" has officially announced an event titled, "Let's Ruin Avengers: Infinity War for Disney Fanatics and SJWs," designed to intentionally sabotage Infinity War's Rotten Tomatoes score and flood the internet with spoilers to ruin the movie for people who have yet to see it. This is similar to previous campaigns started by the group for movies like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther.

Though the Avengers: Infinity War event seems particularly noteworthy because of how massive this movie is intended to be, it's not the only one currently on the group's radar. In fact, elsewhere in the Facebook event description for "Let's Ruin Avengers: Infinity War for Disney Fanatics and SJWs," it is made clear that the folks behind this campaign intend to begin others for Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Luke Cage Season 2, and other upcoming projects released under the Disney banner within the coming months.

Of course, we will have to wait and see what happens with this particular campaign. Even with the previous efforts by this group, both Black Panther and Star Wars: The Last Jedi both went on to become significant successes for Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Disney as a whole. Rotten Tomatoes specifically stated that it would go after fake reviews intentionally intended to scuttle Black Panther's release, so it's entirely possible that the review aggregator will do the same for Infinity War.

Then, as far as spoilers go, fans looking to avoid leaked secrets from Avengers: Infinity War will just have to be extra diligent once the movie has actually screened for audiences. Marvel Studios has arguably done a commendable job of keeping leaks from the film at an absolutely minimum, but we are about to reach the stage of the Avengers: Infinity War process where Marvel fans will have to start keeping a close eye out to protect the film's secrets.

For those of you who are not protesting the release of the film, Avengers: Infinity War will officially hit theaters this weekend on April 27. Moreover, the film's Los Angeles premiere is tonight, so make sure to keep an eye out for reactions to the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe event!
