Kevin Smith Needs A Ton Of Jay And Silent Bob Cosplayers For His New Movie

Its been 13 years since we last visited Kevin Smiths View Askewniverse, but the filmmaker is finally returning to his old stomping grounds to shoot Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Principal photography begins later this month in New Orleans, and Smith has put the call out for all sorts of Jay and Silent Bob cosplayers to audition for the hetero-life mates next cinematic adventure. As Smith explained:

In the flick, weve got a convention scene that requires lots of Jay and Silent Bob themed extras! So Im inviting you to join us AS those extras! Im looking for all sorts Jay and Silent Bob cosplayers of every gender, race or nationality, as well as creative variations of Jay & Bob too: like steampunk Jay & Bob, Jedi Jay & Bob, Rick & Morty Jay & Bob, Bat-Jay & Bob, Ape Jay & Bob, Zombie Jay & Bob, Furry Jay & Bob, etc! The funnier or the more fucked-up (within reason and without harming yourself or others), the likelier youll get featured in our shots! If you ever wanted to get screen time in one of my dopey flicks, there wont be a better chance than this!

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will kick off its New Orleans shoot on February 25 and roll cameras there until the end of March, with this convention scene being filmed during the latter half of production. You can find more details on casting, costume requirements and where to send submissions on Kevin Smiths Instagrams post, but suffice to say that if you and a friend/significant other like to dress up as Jay and Silent Bob, either through their traditional looks or with a fun spin on the costumes, you might want to check out this opportunity, especially if you live in or near The Big Easy. Just remember that your costume needs to be homemade, not store-bought.

Although Jay and Silent Bob last appeared on the big screen in 2006s Clerks II, the duo finally starred in their own movie five years earlier in the form of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, when they traveled to Hollywood to try and prevent a movie being made about the superheroes modeled after them, Bluntman and Chronic. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is putting these characters through a completely fresh and original narrative, in that theyre headed back to Hollywood to try and prevent a reboot of the Bluntman and Chronic movie from being made. Okay, so maybe fresh and original were poor word choices, but nevertheless, the fact that a lot of Jay and Silent Bob cosplayers will be required for a convention scene means that these characters popularity hasnt died down in the last two decades. Far from it, it sounds like theyre a bigger deal than ever.

Its been two years since Kevin Smith announced Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and now the movies finally on the cusp of becoming a reality, with Saban Films acquiring the North American rights to the movie and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment picking up the international rights. Along with an assortment of other familiar faces from the View Askewniverse returning, there will also be a "fresh new crop of cameos from the worlds of movies, TV, music, and podcasting appearing in the sequel.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot doesnt have an assigned release date yet, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for that information and more updates on its progress. For now, scan through our 2019 release schedule to learn whats coming to theaters sooner.

Russo told Empire that, as a father, this sequence is one of the few times in the film that'll always make him well up. He must find it pretty powerful, then, given how many times Russo likely saw it while shooting and editing. "I've got four kids, and it's a very tragic scene to open the movie with.

Don't Call It Suicide Squad 2, James Gunn Film Is A 'Total Reboot,' Producer Says

Don't Call It Suicide Squad 2, James Gunn Film Is A 'Total Reboot,' Producer Says

As of Friday, James Gunn is helming upcoming movie projects for both Marvel and DC -- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Suicide Squad. His opportunity to write and direct for the latter came after Disney fired him from the former. Disney just pulled a 180 on Guardians, but The Suicide Squad will have priority over Peter Quill and his unlikely space friends next adventure.

The filmmakers next Suicide Squad looks to be moving further away from what was established in David Ayer's 2016 movie than one might have expected. Just check out what DCEU producer Peter Safran recently teased in an interview with JoBlo Movie Network:

First of all, we dont call it Suicide Squad 2 'cause its a total reboot, so it's The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. Its everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.

These words shouldnt be a complete surprise to DCEU fans following information that has come so far for The Suicide Squad. Upon the official announcement of the movie, it was described as a "relaunch" of the franchise with a unique vision from James Gunn and "mostly all-new cast of characters and actors."

For many, this still left potential for the franchise to draw from some elements of the 2016 movie, such as bringing back some of the cast, but Peter Safrans words make it sound like James Gunn goes back to the drawing board for the project.

Idris Elba has already been cast as Deadshot to replace Will Smiths past role. Smith has a packed schedule ahead of him, but that may not be the only reason he will not reprise the role if the studio is opting for a clean slate for the group of misfits. Another actor in question is Margot Robbies Harley Quinn. Recent reports indicate the fan favorite will likely return to the franchise, since she also will star in Birds of Prey and was key to the initial success of Suicide Squad.

Would it really be a "total reboot" if Margot Robbie came back for The Suicide Squad as a key player? It certainly could be done -- and the character is an important enough asset to the universe to run through some sticky continuity red tape -- but Safran's words beg the question.

So lets stop calling The Suicide Squad a sequel, because it most certainly is not one. The film is expected to begin production this year and has a release date of August 6, 2021. As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? James Gunns deal with Disney was made around his plans for The Suicide Squad and will pick up after hes finished up with the DC film and perhaps not come to theaters until 2023, per our calculations.

DCEU producer Peter Safran says James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a "total reboot" of the franchise and not really a sequel to David Ayer's movie. Ayer's Suicide Squad was the third entry in DC's cinematic universe (following Man of Steel and Batman V Superman), but the first to focus on lesser-known comic book characters, with the exception of Harley Quinn.

Of Course Deadpool 2 Is Using The Unicorn To Help Sell The Movie

Of Course Deadpool 2 Is Using The Unicorn To Help Sell The Movie

Sure, King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are both currently riding high on the blockbuster success of Black Panther, but there's a less refined Marvel character who will also hit the big screen this year, as well. That's right, we're talking about Wade Wilson and the highly-anticipated release of David Leitch's Deadpool 2. There's a lot of fan enthusiasm to see what gags will return from the original Deadpool, and now it looks like Deadpool 2's marketing already features Wade's beloved stuffed unicorn. Check out a Deadpool 2 promotional stand-up featuring the animal, below.

Pretty adorable, right? Well, it's cute if you don't know the unicorn in question's significance to Wade Wilson. As fans of the original film likely already know, that is the unicorn that The Merc with the Mouth keeps with him when he goes to his room to masturbate after a long day of butchering bad guys. It's already being included the marketing for Deadpool 2, which appears to imply there will be no shortage of lewd jokes this time around -- not that we ever had any doubts about that to begin with. This is Deadpool we're talking about, after all.

The return of the stuffed unicorn could merely be a joke used to sell Deadpool 2 to audiences, but it is also entirely possible that there's some more profound significance to it. Specifically, we already know that Cable (Josh Brolin) will keep a stuffed teddy bear on his utility belt through a portion of the movie, and the motif of stuffed animals could ultimately turn out to be one of the things that brings these two musclebound badasses together. Given how much the Deadpool franchise thrives by subverting action genre expectations, this would make plenty of sense.

With all of that said, superherocomedy's picture of a Deadpool 2 cardboard poster still leaves us with a few unanswered questions about Wade Wilson's special alone time. Chief among those pressing issues is whether or not he still has his Crocs a.k.a his "big, rubber masturbating shoes." In the world of Deadpool, this is vital information.

Audiences will get to see Ryan Reynolds bring his knack for smartass comments back to the big screen as Wade Wilson later this year when Deadpool 2 premieres on May 18. Until then, hop over to CinemaBlend's 2018 movie premiere guide to check out all of the most prominent release dates of the year!
