One Benefit Of Rampage Moving Up Its Release Date, According To Dwayne Johnson

Movie schedules change fairly frequently, as some movies opt to go earlier or later in a given year -- and sometimes are even held until the following year -- as competition from other projects get announced. What's a little bit more of a twist is the last minute way that Avengers: Infinity War and Rampage opted to change their release dates. After Infinity War moved to an earlier release date next month, Rampage followed suit. However, busy star Dwayne Johnson has a really good reason for being excited about Rampage also deciding to change its date: it means he'll likely get to be there for the birth of his baby daughter. He said:

These movie release dates are always a chess game, and in the end I want EVERYONE playing to win.And now that we've moved to April 13th, it pretty much guarantees that I'll be home for the birth of my baby daughter - so thank you Mr. Stark. We all win.And if you Avengers ever wanna have a lil' fun and Rumble... you know where to find me.

Taking to Instagram, the actor talked about how even though it might seem as if Rampage doesn't want to compete with what will undoubtedly be a big box office winner, moving up the release date of Rampage so there will be more of a gap before Avengers: Infinity War will actually have a positive effect on his personal life. Dwayne Johnson is actually expecting a baby girl with his girlfriend Lauren Hashian. It will be their second child together.

The reason the date change is notable is because making a movie isn't just about filming that movie; Dwayne Johnson and the other people involved with the film also have to attend the premiere(s) and do interviews and late night appearances prior to the release of the movie. The schedule seems as if it would be a bit of a grind, especially if and when international premieres and press duties are taken into account. Because Rampage is switching from an April 20 to an April 13 release date, Johnson should be home in just the nick of time.

Last week, Marvel surprised fans by announcing that Avengers: Infinity War would no longer be released on May the 4th, as had previously been the release date. Instead, Avengers: Infinity War was moved up a week, to April 27. Although that still would have been the week after Rampage was going to be released, likely the studio felt like a two week gap would be healthier for the box office of the Dwayne Johnson-starrer. The actor seems to agree, as he mentions it would be great for all movies to win. Although Disney didn't explicitly say it at the time of the Avengers 3's date change, moving the Marvel film will also put a slightly bigger gap between Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well. The latter movie is set to be released on May 25. If you haven't taken a look at Rampage, yet, we have you covered.
