Ethan Hawke Thinks He'd Be A Great Wookie For Star Wars
Fans may argue over the best film franchises, but when it comes to those in the industry, it sure seems like everyone wants to a part of Star Wars. We've frequently heard actors mention that they want to be in Star Wars movies and some even take small cameo roles where their faces are covered just to be a part of it. You can now count actor Ethan Hawke among the Star Wars faithful. The actor is a huge fan of the franchise and wants to be in a Star Wars movie. Ethan Hawke isn't particular either and would take any role, including that of a Wookiee, as he explained:
I've never been in one, no, and the truth is, it's okay, because there weren't very many of them, but now there's a lot of them and I still haven't been in them. I would definitely play a Wookiee. I would do that so well.
You hear that, J.J. Abrams? If you have any Wookiee costumes in need of a body to fill them, Ethan Hawke is your man. The acclaimed actor just wants to be a part of Star Wars, and as a lifelong Star Wars fan, he probably has been practicing his Wookiee roar for ages and has it down pat by now. He's a phenomenal actor too and will probably get an Oscar nomination for his performance in First Reformed this year, so he'd certainly bring a lot to the role.
As Ethan Hawke said in his interview on Conan, there used to not be many Star Wars films, but now there are a lot of them. The Skywalker Saga films and anthology films are just the tip of the iceberg too, because coming down the pipeline are a new trilogy from Rian Johnson and a series from Game of Thrones' David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, not to mention the live-action TV series coming from Jon Favreau. So there are indeed plenty of Star Wars roles to be had now and in the future, and even though Ethan Hawke hasn't gotten one yet, you have to think that an actor with his level of talent that has shown genuine interest will get a call eventually.
There was actually a rumor that Chewbacca would have a bigger role in Star Wars: Episode IX, so that could mean we'll see other Wookiees in the film. So maybe Ethan Hawke will get his shot, although that film has already started shooting. While Ethan Hawke might be content to play a Wookiee, I think a role where you get to see his face would be better for an actor of his specific talents. Personally, I see Ethan Hawke more as a villain, like an Empire or First Order member with calm and cool menace, unlike a character like Hux who just yells a lot. Heck, make him Thrawn.
The next Star Wars film that Ethan Hawke presumably won't be in is Star Wars: Episode IX. That hits theaters on December 20, 2019. For movies heading to theaters a little sooner, check out our release calendar.
